Quarterback Robert Griffin III was elected one of the Washington Redskins’ captains by his teammates.

According to Coach Mike Shanahan, Redskins players elected Griffin and left tackle Trent Williams the team’s offensive captains. Linebacker London Fletcher and nose tackle Barry Cofield were elected the defensive captains and Reed Doughty was elected the special teams captain, Shanahan said Monday.

Griffin also was elected a team captain by Redskins players last season. They gave Griffin the honor last November, a little more than halfway through his rookie season. Shanahan said then that he could not recall a rookie ever being elected a captain on one of his teams previously.
