Lambeau Field is a football shrine, and Washington Redskins players say they’re looking forward to playing in the historic stadium when they face the Green Bay Packers there Sunday.

“I’ve had the privilege of playing there one time a few years ago,” defensive lineman Kedric Golston said. “It’s definitely a cool environment, cool stadium. You know the history that organization has. You kind of enjoy that for a moment. Once the kickoff starts, it’s another football team across from you and you’re going there to win a football game.”

Rookie running back and punt returner Chris Thompson said he’s pleased the game is in September rather than in the thick of a Green Bay winter.

“I know that atmosphere is gonna be crazy,” Thompson said. “But it’s good that we’re playing them Week 2 so it won’t be so cold like in November, December.”

Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said the Redskins must remember the purpose of their visit.

“It is one of the more historic venues in the NFL,” he said. “It’ll be a great experience. But we’re going there not for sightseeing, but to win.”
