Place kicker Kai Forbath will not play for the Washington Redskins as they take on the Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, safety Brandon Meriweather will make his season debut.

The Redskins on Friday listed Forbath as questionable on their final injury report of the week because he had injured his groin. The team on Saturday signed John Potter, who spent training camp and the preseason with Washington.

Potter has never attempted a kickoff in an NFL game. He served as a kickoff specialist in six games for Buffalo last season.

Other inactives for the Redskins today: Quarterback Rex Grossman, running back Evan Royster, guard Josh LeRibeus, safeties Jordan Pugh and Jose Gumbs and nose tackle Chris Neild.

Meriweather is expected to start at strong safety after missing last week’s game with a groin injury. This will mark his first regular season game since Week 11 of the 2012 campaign. That was the only appearance for Meriweather, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament early in the second half.
