With Brandon Meriweather suspended, Bacarri Rambo (24) will start at free safety.

With Brandon Meriweather suspended and Reed Doughty sidelined by a concussion, the Washington Redskins listed a pair or first-year players, Jose Gumbs and Bacarri Rambo, as their starting safeties for today’s game against the Broncos.

Rambo started the first two games of the year at free safety before being demoted and then placed on the inactive list for the last two games. Gumbs has played two games – contributing primarily on special teams. Rambo, this year’s sixth-round pick, will start at free safety and Gumbs, a free agent addition on the first day of training camp, will start at strong safety

It’s expected that cornerback E.J. Biggers also will see some time at safety as he has in the last three games, taking Doughty’s place on passing downs.

Inactive for a second consecutive game is tight end Fred Davis. Also inactive: quarterback Rex Grossman, guard Josh LeRibeus, running back Chris Thompson, linebacker Brandon Jenkins and nose tackle Chris Neild.
