Mike Shanahan says Jordan Reed not ruled out for rest of season

The Washington Redskins have not ruled out the possibility of rookie tight end Jordan Reed playing again this season, Coach Mike Shanahan said Friday.

Reed did not participate in Friday’s practice, and he likely won’t play Sunday at Atlanta. It likely will be the fourth straight game that Reed has missed since suffering a concussion during a Nov. 17 game at Philadelphia.

Shanahan did not rule out the possibility of Reed playing Sunday and the team listed Reed as questionable on its official injury report. Reed will undergo further concussion testing Saturday, Shanahan said. Reed is subject to the NFL’s procedures for the treatment of players who suffer concussions and must be cleared by an independent neurologist to practice and play.

Shanahan denied a report by Fox that it already has been decided that Reed won’t play again this season.

“No. I thought we went through that” Thursday, Shanahan said.

The Redskins listed guard Kory Lichtensteiger (pinched nerve), safeties Brandon Meriweather (bruised sternum) and Trenton Robinson (ankle) and fullback Darrel Young (hamstring) as probable on the injury report.
