The Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions are both interested in Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell as a head coaching candidate.

John Wooten, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, said by telephone Thursday that Caldwell is scheduled to interview Friday with the Lions. Caldwell’s interview with the Redskins is to come next week, according to Wooten. The Fritz Pollard Alliance works with the NFL to promote diversity in hiring.

The Redskins wanted Caldwell, the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, to interview this week but Caldwell did not want to rush through the process, Wooten said.

“He’s going to stick to his schedule,” Wooten said. “It’s Detroit tomorrow and the Redskins next week. … They [the Redskins] wanted him to come in this week. But he was committed to Friday with Detroit and he didn’t want it to be too much all at once.”

ESPN reported that Caldwell interviewed Wednesday with the Redskins.
