The Washington Redskins potentially could lose one of their coaching candidates, James Franklin, to Penn State.

One person close to the situation said Tuesday that Franklin, the coach at Vanderbilt who formerly was an offensive coordinator at the University of Maryland, is expected to meet with the Redskins in the coming days.

But it is not clear if that meeting will take place because there is increasing speculation that Franklin has emerged as a favorite to be offered the Penn State job.

The school is seeking a replacement for Bill O’Brien, who left for the NFL to become the head coach of the Houston Texans.
