CHARLOTTE — The Washington Redskins never scheduled interviews for their head coaching job with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, a team spokesman said Sunday.

Team spokesman Tony Wyllie said the Redskins requested permission to interview the 49ers coordinators but never scheduled interviews with them.

“Nothing was ever scheduled,” Wyllie said.

ESPN reported Sunday that the 49ers were “not happy” that Roman and Fangio prepared for interviews Thursday with the Redskins but the Redskins failed to cancel those interviews before hiring Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden as their coach. The Redskins formally introduced Gruden as their coach Thursday.

A 49ers official said Sunday he was not aware of any displeasure within the organization about the situation.

The 49ers face the Carolina Panthers here Sunday in an NFC semifinal.
