The former Texas standout enters his fifth NFL season. A third-round pick in 2010, McCoy spent the first three seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns and last season with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound McCoy made eight starts as a rookie and 13 the following year. He has appeared in seven games since (three in 2012 and four in 2013). For his career, he has completed 410 of 703 passes for 4,401 yards, 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

The signing gives Washington three quarterbacks on the roster. The Redskins have Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins and had elected not to re-sign 11-year veteran Rex Grossman.
