Redskins sign Jerry Rice Jr.

The Washington Redskins have signed Jerry Rice Jr., an undrafted rookie wide receiver and the son of the NFL’s career receiving leader.

The team announced the move Thursday after it first was revealed by Rice on Instagram.

The younger Rice played in college at UCLA and UNLV. He made appearances at minicamps with the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

“I’m my own person, my own individual,” he told the 49ers’ Web site in May. “Obviously, I have his DNA too, so there’s some similarities. But in the end I am Rice Jr., not Rice Sr., and it’s time to make my own name.”

The Redskins announced they had waived cornerback Blake Sailors.
