Wide receiver Andre Roberts will serve as the Washington Redskins’ return man on both kickoffs and punts, Coach Jay Gruden said on Thursday.

Roberts, who signed with Washington as a free agent this offseason, appeared to have the leg up on the competition in both departments.  Since training camp, he had taken the first reps at both positions in practices.

Roberts this preseason return four punts for an average of 9.5 yards and attempt.

He did not attempt any kickoff returns in preseason games. During his four seasons in Arizona, Roberts averaged 22.4 yards per kick return.
