Richard Sherman: Seahawks should have won 45-10

Richard Sherman couldn’t prevent DeSean Jackson from scoring on this play.

Although pleased to have won, Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman believed his team should have beaten the Redskins by a heftier margin. He also conveyed that he doesn’t think much of Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon.

“It should have been 45-10,” Sherman told reporters in the visitors’ locker room. “There was never a point where we were worried. I mean, we were in control.”

The Seahawks hurt themselves by committing 13 penalties for a total of 90 yards.

Seattle Coach Pete Carroll didn’t put a number on what the final score should have been, but he agreed the penalties prevented Seattle from having the kind of outcome it could have had.

“It could have been a big night for us,” Carroll said. “We were poised to have a big night. With the toughness, aggressiveness and speed, we came out flying. We were just a little bit out of whack.”

Sherman is known for his outspoken nature, and in addition to saying his team should have won in blowout fashion, he also had pointed comments for Garcon.

Garcon finished the game with only two catches for 23 yards on three targets. Sherman, who matched up with Washington’s No. 1 receiver much of the game, said, “Pierre doesn’t matter in this league.”

When a reporter asked him to clarify his statement, Sherman said, “I mean exactly what I said.”

At one point during the telecast, it appeared Garcon pulled Sherman’s hair. Asked about it, Sherman said, “Yeah. Pierre did a few things. When you can’t get open, you got to do whatever you can. The crowd is acting like I’m holding him. Obviously the TV copy you can see what happened.”

Garcon didn’t talk to reporters after the game.
