Redskins claim offensive lineman T.J. Clemmings off waivers; Colts claim RB Matt Jones

The Washington Redskins are still in the process of shaping their 53-man roster, and 10-man practice squad, following Sunday’s waiver wire. Check back for more updates throughout the day.

The Redskins claimed offensive lineman T.J. Clemmings from the waiver wire Sunday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Clemmings spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft, before cutting him Saturday.

Clemmings was a highly touted offensive lineman coming out of Pittsburgh, but he slid in the draft because of concerns about a stress fracture in his foot. He was inconsistent during his tenure in Minnesota, playing both guard and tackle.

Colts claim Matt Jones, Matt Hazel

Meanwhile, two players the Redskins cut were claimed off waivers. Both running back Matt Jones and wide receiver Matt Hazel were picked up by the Indianapolis Colts, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Jones, a third-round pick in 2015, wasn’t in Washington’s plans this offseason as the team went with Chris Thompson, Rob Kelley, Samaje Perine and Mack Brown at the position.

Hazel was buried on the depth chart this summer. He received significant time during the preseason finale, however, and caught four passes for 60 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday.

Redskins to add Pete Robertson, Fish Smithson to practice squad

Washington is also in the process of forming its practice squad. The team intends to add linebacker Pete Robertson, safety Fish Smithson, tight end Manasseh Garner, defensive lineman Brandon Banks, offensive lineman Kyle Kalis, center Anthony Fabiano and wide receiver Maurice Harris to the 10-man team, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation.

Five players moved to reserve/injured list

After waiving them with an injury designation, the Redskins placed five players on their reserve/injured list: linebackers Lynden Trail and Ron Thompson Jr., center Ronald Patrick, wide receiver Levern Jacobs and tight end E.J. Bibbs. They all cleared waivers Sunday, allowing the team to place them on the reserve/injured list and retain their rights.

Nate Sudfeld, Joey Mbu sign to other practice squads

Former Redskins quarterback Nate Sudfeld will sign on the Eagles’ practice squad, while defensive lineman Joey Mbu will join the Colts’ practice squad, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
