The Washington Redskins have placed a second-round tender on tackle Ty Nsekhe, driving the cost up for other teams looking to snatch away the backup tackle.
Placing a second-round tender on the 32-year-old ensures the Redskins won’t lose him for nothing and ups the cost for a team looking to sign him. The second-round tender amount is $2.914 million, and Nsekhe would play a single year under that contract and could negotiate a longer term deal with the team. If he signs with a different team, the Redskins still have the right to match it. Should they choose not to, Washington would receive a second-round pick as compensation.
Nsekhe has played in 40 games with the Redskins over the last three seasons and has started 11, including five in the final six games of 2017. He gives the team some insurance as both tackles, Trent Williams (knee) and Morgan Moses (ankle), have had recent surgeries.
This will be the most lucrative deal of Nsekhe’s career after he played for a $690,000 base salary in 2017.
The future of the left guard position remains the biggest question mark on the Redskins’ offensive line as Shawn Lauvao is set to become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday.
