Linebacker Brian Orakpo would’ve preferred for the Redskins to have signed him to a long-term deal rather than play this season out on the one-year franchise player tag.

The Redskins have until May 3 to pick up the fifth-year option on linebacker Ryan Kerrigan’s contract, and GM Bruce Allen said something will happen soon.

Redskins outside linebacker Brian Orakpo said that he doesn’t believe he needs to do anything further to prove himself worthy of a long-term contract.

The contract that Ryan Clark signed on Wednesday is a one-year deal worth $1 million, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
