Things are getting sunnier at the H Street Country Club. Starting next Friday, the H Street bar, known for its indoor mini-golf course, is adding a rooftop deck with room for 100 people. Ricardo Vergera, a partner at the Country Club, says the project has been in the works for two years.
At 2,100 square feet, there's plenty of room for cornhole, a ping-pong table (on its way) and lounge furniture for relaxing. A beach vibe is planned, from the canned beer and frozen margaritas served at the large bar to the Bethany Beach lifeguard chairs that bouncers will sit on. There's no roof, so you can catch some rays – but it also means the place will close if the weather is cold or rainy.
The deck will be open Fridays and Saturdays only, for now. Beginning in mid-April, the deck will open for weekend brunch. Other than that, expect a very basic menu of tacos and chips and salsa. (If you want more to eat, you'll have to head to the dining room downstairs.)
The new addition is the latest in a flurry of deck openings in the 1300 block of H Street NE: The Rock and Roll Hotel unveiled its deck in late 2011, and Avery's Bar and Lounge, which opened in the old Rose's Dream space last month, plans to open its rooftop as soon as its permits are finalized.
Vergera is also working on Vendetta, a red-sauce Italian restaurant taking the place of the Red Palace one block away. Expect two indoor bocce courts and an early May opening.
