The end of the Craft Brewers Conference has a last-day-of-school feeling about it. It's much lower-key day than Wednesday or Thursday, focused mostly on tap takeovers.
Where to be tonight: Sneak out of work early to get to the Drink Local! event at Meridian Pint, sponsored by Beer Advocate magazine. Hometown pride will be strong, with 20 breweries from the District, Maryland and Virginia taking over the bar’s 28 draft beer lines and serving 24 cask-conditioned ales, each for $5. Devils Backbone, the Brewer’s Art, 3 Stars and Mad Fox will pour special collaborations brewed with Meridian Pint’s in-house beer experts. Doors opened at 1, so expect long lines outside at happy hour.
Other things that sound awesome: Jack Rose offers "an Epic conclusion to CBC week," showing off its new 20-tap draft system by tapping 20 beers from Utah's Epic Brewing. (This should live up to its name: there are five versions of Brainless Belgian Ale alone, according to the menu.)
The Black Squirrel wraps up its series of state-focused beer weeks with Florida Beer Night. Saint Somewhere, Cigar City, Swamp Head and Tequesta will have 25 drafts between them; the full list is on the CBC site.
Goose Island invades Rustico Ballston from 6 to 10 p.m., bringing the sought-after Bourbon County Stout, Bourbon County Coffee stout and other rare beers
Oskar Blues puts 12 of its beers on tap and cask at Scion, including rarities Velvet Elvis Stout, Sandy Saison and Oaked Smidy Stout. Drafts are half-price from 5 to 7 p.m. The CBC page has the full lineup.
R.F.D.'s happy hour with Green Flash really should be called hoppy hour, with the Hop Odessey Black IPA, Palate Wrecker and 1st Anniversary American Strong Ale among the beers on tap from 5 to 7 p.m.
Lou's City Bar is still celebrating March Madness with $18 pitchers of Sam Adams Boston Lager, but they're adding five more Sam Adams rarity taps tonight, including White Water IPA, Double Agent India Pale Lager and Dark Depths Baltic Porter.
