Every month is National Grilled Cheese Month in our hearts, but April is "officially" the month when society bands together to celebrate one of our most perfect foods. From today through the end of April, you can toast to the dish in style at Bourbon Steak, where executive chef John Critchley is adding toppings like foie gras butter, onion jam and truffled cheese to slices of pumpernickel, brioche and baguette. The specialty sandwiches are $12 and available at the bar Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

For a more affordable grilled cheese sandwich, the Super Grilled Cheese from Stoney's -- topped with tomato, onions and bacon, and served with fries -- remains unbeatable at $9.95. (Or just $5 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.) It's one of our 40 Essential Eats for 2013.
