Help us build D.C.’s most insane cheeseburger

Look, what we're about to do here isn't necessarily "advisable" or "good for us," but if that's the price we must pay for a story these days, so be it. To make a long story short, we're attempting to achieve the zenith of the D.C. burger combo meal by taking components that define the city's standout burgers and stacking them into an all-star concoction, a specialty burger to end all specialty burgers. Plus fries and a shake.

Here's how this is going to work. We've compiled some notable burger components from menus across town. Some are high-brow, some are low-brow. What happens now is pretty simple: We want you to vote for your favorites in each category and we'll build this burger from scratch based on your picks.

Love the taste of Black & Orange's No Burger, No Cry, but wish it came on Palena's bun with Shack Sauce and smoked mozzarella? You're a flavor junkie, it seems, and we can absolutely make that happen for you. And then, we'll probably try to eat it and you can laugh at us for inviting this messy, messy undertaking upon ourselves.

Madness, you say? I'm not here to tell you you're wrong. Maybe we are history's greatest monsters; history will have to be the judge. For now, let's hold hands and step into the burger void together.

Update: The poll is now closed. Results will be announced on the Going Out Guide Blog next week.

Alex Baldinger is editor of the Going Out Guide blog, which covers food, drink, arts, music, events and other curiosities in the D.C. area. He is forever in search of a great sandwich.
