So how did we make the burgamalgamation that graces the cover of today's Weekend section? After you, the readers, voted for the city's best burger components, we deployed a team of four reporters to spend the afternoon collecting ingredients from the 11 burger joints represented in the final product.

The People's Burger: You voted. We made it. And ate it.

Then, with the help of the Food section's Bonnie Benwick, Alex Baldinger and I built this beauty of a burger. It barely fit in our mouths. And by the time it had been styled and photographed, it needed reheating. But you know what? It was still good.

You voted for the ingredients, and we stacked them all in The People's Burger of Washington, D.C. (Casey Capachi/The Washington Post)
