Lupe Fiasco
Few hip-hop artists mix adoration and ridicule, brilliance and consternation like Lupe Fiasco. To his fans, he's flawless. To his detractors, he's unnecessarily contrarian. But wherever one falls on the Lupe appreciation scale, the undeniable fact is that he's one of the most significant rap craftsmen of his generation, with a dedication to intricacy in his lyricism that goes against the popular tide. Lupe Fiasco headlines the Tetsuo and Youth Preview Tour at the 9:30 Club, which also features Stalley and Dee-1.
Wednesday at 7 p.m. 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. 202-265-0930www.930.com. $40.

Friday

Adroit Theory tasting
Virginia's small breweries boomed this year, and there's no sign of the trend slowing. One of the most buzzed-about breweries is Adroit Theory, which plans to open in Purcellville at the end of the month, focusing on stouts, barley wines and other nontraditional beers. The brewers will host their first public tasting at the Beltway Brewing Company contract brewery Friday, pouring one version, and possibly two, of their B/A/Y/S Stout. (The name is an abbreviation of "Black as Your Soul.") You'll be able to purchase bottles and growlers to take home.
Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Beltway Brewing Company, 22620 Davis Dr., Suite 110, Sterling. 703-434-0553www.adroit-theory.com.
Free.

Saturday

Holiday bar crawls
We hope you've stocked up on ugly holiday sweaters, because the seasonal bar crawls and happy hours are coming thick and fast. There are two on Saturday on either side of the Potomac. In Clarendon, On Tap Magazine's Holiday Crawl visits eight bars between 3 and 9 p.m., including Bracket Room, Clarendon Grill and Mexicali Blues, for food and drink specials. The festivities wind up at Mister Days, where prizes will be awarded for the most creative costume and the best-dressed duo and group. Proceeds from the $10 registration fee go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Clarendon's Finest Holiday Crawl: Saturday from 3 to 9 pm. Registration at Sobe, 3100 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington. 703-528-0033www.ontaponline.com. $10.

Meanwhile, the D.C. Santa Crawl visits more than a dozen bars in and around Dupont Circle - think Irish Whiskey, the Mighty Pint, the Sign of the Whale and other usual suspects - for $2 beers, $3 mixed drinks and $4 SoCo shots. Costumes are encouraged. D.C. Santa Crawl: Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m. Multiple registration sites; Details at www.dcsantacrawl.com. $15 in advance; $20 at the door.

Nerd Nite anniversary
For the past four years, Nerd Nite has been the most interesting and educational event on Washington's bar scene. The formula may sound dry - volunteers giving PowerPoint presentations on their favorite topics - but it continues to be anything but. Where else can you see a slideshow of Bill Watterson's pre-"Calvin and Hobbes" art, view slo-mo video of deadly animal attacks or watch a homemade volcano erupt? For this anniversary party, a physician from Georgetown University's division of integrated biodefense will talk about killer viruses, an immunologist who worked with the World Health Organization will discuss your body's "killer T cells" and a hairstylist will "demystify the science of hair color," while the crowd drinks beers and geeks out.
Saturday at 6 p.m. DC9, 1940 Ninth St. NW. 202-483-5000www.dcnine.com. $10.
