Get a taste of the Brewer’s Art at Petworth Citizen tonight

Petworth Citizen (Mark Gail/For The Washington Post)

Most restaurateurs have no qualms about luring a manager or bartender away from a rival -- it's par for the course in the restaurant game. But pinching a brewpub's general manager and then asking the brewery to mark the occasion with a tap takeover seems startlingly close to rubbing it in.

Yet that's what's going down at Petworth Citizen tonight. To celebrate the hiring of general manager Ari Magwood, who held the same position at the Brewer's Art in Baltimore until last month, the Petworth restaurant is putting five of the Brewer's Art's Belgian-style ales on tap for one night. The lineup includes Ozzy, Resurrection, Birdhouse, Green Peppercorn Tripel and one unconfirmed beer that bar manager Kristi Green says "is something not usually found in Washington."

This night also marks the official grand opening of the Reading Room, a community meeting space and lending library in the back of Petworth Citizen. If you have any books you'd like to donate, bring them along.

Brewer's Art taps begin flowing at 5 p.m., and staff from the Brewer's Art will be present to talk about beer and say hello to their old friend. The Reading Room's open house runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
