Three local bacon festivals for bacon lovers

News that health experts are revisiting the guidelines for saturated fat consumption could not have come at a better time, with three bacon-themed festivals coming up. Here's what carnivores need to know:

D.C. Bacon and Beer Festival
April 26, Penn Social, D.C.

Bad news, bacon lovers: This festival is already sold out. However, you can add yourself to a wait list or see if something will open up on Craigslist. The festival is a fundraiser for Food & Friends, and will feature pork from the Pig, Three Little Pigs, Cafe Saint-Ex, Boundary Road and others. The beer is by DC Brau, Dogfish Head, 3 Stars and Chocolate City, among others.

Maryland Bacon Festival
April 26, Rash Field, Baltimore.

The folks at America Loves Bacon, an organization that produces pop-up bacon events around the country (talk about a dream job), are behind this downtown Baltimore bacon fest. You can take the MARC there on weekends now! Tickets, which range from $20-$70 for various admission levels, went on sale today. You get access to 30 vendors and food trucks, bars with bacon-themed cocktails, cooking demonstrations and eating competitions.

Beer Bacon Music
May 17-18, Fairgrounds E-ventplex, Frederick

This festival dazzles with numbers. 10 bands! 50 bacon dishes! More than 100 beer varieties! And most promising of all: A two-ton all-you-can-eat bacon bar! You'll find Carnivore BBQ, North Country Smokehouse, Schlafly, Antietam Brewery and Brewer's Alley among the eats and drinks. Homebrewers can enter their beers in a competition, with the chance to win up to $6,000. Tickets range from $40-$65.
