After months of announcements and delays, One Eight Distilling, which plans to manufacture vodka, whiskey and gin in Ivy City, has an official opening date.

Your first chance to see the distillery and 2,000-square-foot tasting room will be Jan. 8 – that's 1/8 – at a special party featuring food and One Eight cocktails provided by Union Kitchen. (Details about ticketing are still being worked out, but the event will be open to the public from 7 to 10 p.m.)

On Saturday, Jan. 10, One Eight will offer its first "regular" day of tours and tastings, opening from 1 to 4 p.m. Tours and samples will be free.

CEO Alexander "Sandy" Wood says the distillery, only the second in Washington since the end of Prohibition, will have bottles of its District Made Vodka and Rock Creek White Whiskey for sale on opening day, with Ivy City Gin coming in late January. (Expect to pay $34 per bottle for the whiskey and $36 for vodka and gin.) Wood said he expects One Eight to begin showing up in bars and liquor stores in February.
