After outgrowing its original Shaw space, Beau Thai is stretching out, moving to a shiny new corner spot beneath a new apartment building. The new restaurant, at Seventh and P Streets NW, will open Dec. 26 with about 76 seats in the dining room, and 24 at the bar. That compares to 34 and five seats, respectively, at the previous New Jersey and R Street location, which will close after dinner service Dec. 23.

Co-owner Ralph Brabham says there are other upgrades in store for the sleek, bright dining room: They're adding a few new dishes, like larb ped and a Sriracha noodle dish, as well as a fresh fish selection including whole flounder, stir-fried mahi mahi and steamed striped bass.

The bar menu at the new Shaw location will be similar to the Mt. Pleasant Beau Thai, Brabham said, with a focus on local beers (with seven on draft), seasonal cocktails and a larger wine list. They plan to add a bar snack menu, too.

Once warmer weather arrives and the restaurant gets approval, guests will be able to dine on an outdoor patio with space for about 30. Until then, they can sidle up to a 30-foot-long custom wood table, underneath chic decorative ceiling panels in wood and teal. Or, if you prefer your pad Thai on the couch with Netflix, the restaurant will have a dedicated takeout counter.
