It's official: Ivy City is the gin capital of the Washington region.

Since 2012, the neighborhood has been home to New Columbia Distillers, the creators of Green Hat Gin. Next Friday, June 12, the nearby One Eight Distilling will release Ivy City Gin, an 80-proof spirit made with "locally sourced" rye and corn. It will initially be sold at the distillery and liquor stores, and should make its way into bars and restaurants "later in June," according to an e-mail from the company. Bottles will sell for $37 at the distillery, with $1 from each sale going to Habitat for Humanity's ongoing projects in Ivy City, says marketing manager Jared Earley.

To mark the release, there's a "100 Bottles of Gin on the Wall" party at the distillery from 6 to 8 p.m. on the June 12. The $50 ticket, available online now, includes a signed bottle of gin, two cocktails mixed up by Tryst bartenders David Fritzler and Daniel McCombie, and live music. The gin will also be available during the distillery's weekly tours and open house on Saturday, June 13, from 1 to 4 p.m.
