In August, the Washington area got duplicate locations of old favorites, plus a few new concepts. Here's a rundown of the noteworthy developments.
[Another restaurant closes. That doesn’t mean the industry is headed for a crash.]
Buredo: Now you can get your burrito-size sushi roll fix at the Wildwood Shopping Center. 10219 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda.
District Winery: This D.C. outpost of Brooklyn Winery pours 20 wines produced at their Brooklyn facility; the first District-produced wine will be a dry rosé that will be released next spring. The winery includes a restaurant, called Ana, serving dishes from chefs Michael Gordon and Benjamin Lambert. 385 Water St. SE.
Donburi: Dupont Circle gains a larger, three-story sibling to the Adams Morgan location. 1134 19th St. NW.
Honeyfish Poke: A new downtown location of the Hawaiian raw-fish dish joins the ranks of the California-based chain, which opened its first local spot in Rockville. 1401 K St. NW.
Meleket Restaurant: The Ethiopian-Italian restaurant in Silver Spring also serves beer, wine and cocktails. 1907 Seminary Rd., Silver Spring.
Obelisk: The Italian restaurant in Dupont Circle, closed after a July 29 electrical fire, opened its doors again on Aug. 11. 2029 P St. NW.
Silver: After opening the first Silver in Bethesda, the team behind Silver Diner brings their diner-meets-brasserie restaurant to Cathedral Commons. 3404 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
Sugar Shack Donuts: The Richmond-born doughnuts-and-coffee chain adds its first shop to the District (it also operates two others, in Alexandria and Arlington). 1932 Ninth St. NW.
Zenebech: After closing their Shaw location last year, the restaurant is back with a larger space in Adams Morgan. 2420 18th St. NW.
Boss Shepherd’s: The former favorite of Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema closed Aug. 31.
Taqueria Distrito Federal: The 14th Street restaurant has closed, Popville reports, but the one on Kennedy Street remains open.
