Nothing says “summer” like sitting outdoors with a refreshing frozen cocktail. These bars let you enjoy the weather as well as the drinks.
The tiny rooftop deck above Little Coco’s on 14th Street NW adopts a beach theme, with beach chairs and tables made out of surfboards. A life-size cutout of David Hasselhoff watches over the bar. The cocktail menu at “Coco Beach,” as it will be known, mixes the classics — mai tais, Painkillers, Blue Hawaiians — with rotating frozen drinks, including swirled margaritas and tropical offerings. 3907 14th St. NW.
Last summer, the poolside bar atop the Mason and Rook Hotel in Logan Circle changed its themed cocktail and food menus every month. This year, Radiator beverage director Sarah Rosner opts for a greatest-hits approach, using favorites from last year, including Eddie Would Go — a frozen version of the spicy house cocktail made with Cotton and Reed rums, cinnamon syrup, grapefruit and green Chartreuse — and the Concrete Jungle Bird, another frozen concoction with Plymouth Gin and amaros. Pink wine is obviously the star at Whaley’s Rosé Garden, with 14 kinds available by the glass or bottle at tables shaded by striped pink umbrellas. But don’t overlook the other beverages at the popular (and crowded) little wine garden on the Yards Park riverwalk, including the frozen piña colada, which is served in two steps: First, you drink a mixture of aged rum and fresh coconut milk, then the same glass is topped up with a mix of rums, pineapple juice, nutmeg and cream of coconut. 301 Water St. SE.
