The former parking lot at the corner of First and N streets NE in NoMa will eventually be home to a Landmark movie theater and a massive mixed-use development. Until then, it’ll have a “food truck pod” called Lunchbox.
Lunchbox is an outdoor venue, much like a park, where people can eat on picnic tables and play games surrounded by building-sized murals.
“We’ve mastered the zen of pop-ups,” Robin-Eve Jasper, President of the NoMa Business Improvement District, said in a press release.
A pop-up beer garden, Wunder Garten, recently opened in another vacant NoMa lot that is slated for development soon.
Lunchbox will be open to the public weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Wednesdays there will be free concerts, giveaways and food trucks.
The concert lineup is:
- Sept. 30: Rew Smith (rock)
- Oct. 7: Tony M (acoustic/rock)
- Oct. 14: Darcy Dawn (pop/rock)
- Oct. 21: Jason Masi (acoustic/soul)
- Oct. 28: Levi Stephens (R&B/soul)
Lunchbox will be open through the fall. JBG Companies and Brandywine Realty Trust will start construction on the site soon thereafter.
