The tradition marks Groundhog Day. The belief is that if the groundhog sees his shadow, it’s supposed to mean more winter weather. If not, spring is around the corner.
In Pennsylvania, the most famous groundhog — Punxsutawney Phil — did not see his shadow earlier today, and that is a prediction of an early spring, according to the popular belief.
