As crowds arrive for the inauguration, groups of protesters have been trying to block security checkpoints.  The situation is fluid, but in some instances visitors have been unable to enter and have been directed to other areas.

The U.S. Secret Service has been updating the best way to access security check points on Twitter.

Based on Washington Post reporters on the scene, and social media reports, these are the checkpoints that appear to be impacted.

  • John Marshall Park, C and Fourth Streets NW: The checkpoint at this park has been blocked since around 8:30 a.m. due to Black Lives Matter and Showing Up For Racial Justice protesters. Officers are telling visitors that their best bet is to try another entry point.
  • 10th and E Streets NW: People are reportedly having trouble getting through the checkpoint. The protesters appear to be a feminist group advocating for reproductive healthcare and to protect women against sexual assault.
  • 13 and F streets NW: A group of Standing Rock protesters have reportedly chained themselves together in front of this security checkpoint, hindering access.
