Missing: A pit bull named Heaven from Southeast Washington that was stolen at gunpoint.

How the dog went missing involves a tale of  robbery and a mystery as to the motive, plus a search for the suspect.

It started around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Pomeroy Road SE near the Suitland Parkway in the Barry Farm neighborhood.

D.C. police said a man got out of a silver-colored sedan with tinted windows.

Gun in hand, he told the victim one thing: “Come up off the dog.”

The victim complied.

He dropped the white leash tied to the one-month-old pit bull on the ground.

The dog walked away and the man took the dog before he fled.
