Ronald McDonald’s makeover. You be the judge.

Ronald McDonald turned hipster? He has gotten a redesign from the woman who won a Tony for the costume creations for Broadway’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

The reviews are coming in, however, and they’re mixed at best.

“Terrifying,” Slate said.

“Still creepy?” asked LA Times.

People also took to Twitter to debate the clown’s new clothes after McDonald’s announced Wednesday that the red-headed icon got a makeover.

Mr. McDonald’s old mustard-yellow jumpsuit and candy cane sleeves are out. Now he’s sporting a pair of “manpris,” a red blazer and a bowtie.

He still wears the gloves and giant shoes. And, of course, he has the same Bozo-red hair.

His new threads were designed by Ann Hould-Ward, who has been nominated for two Tonys and won a third for her costume design for the Broadway staging of “Beauty and the Beast.”

“Designing new clothes for Ronald McDonald was one of the highlights of my career,” Hould-Ward said. “I’ve worked with some really big names over the years and suiting up a living legend was a real thrill.”

His last redesign was in 2005.

Also, for the first time since he debuted in a TV spot in 1963, he’ll have an active presence on social media. He’ll be using the hashtag #RonaldMcDonald.
