If you have a car crash every 5 years, you’re an average D.C. driver. But D.C. drivers are among America’s worst.

These days, politics in Washington, D.C., look like a car crash.

So, increasingly, do the roads.

Allstate’s annual America’s Best Drivers Report ranked the nation’s capital near the bottom of the list, 198th out of 200, claiming the District’s drivers are 97 percent more likely to be involved in a traffic accident than the national average. According to the report, the average driver in the nation’s capital will crash about every five years. D.C. came in 194th place last year.

Alexandria drivers were not much better off, ranking 193rd.  Baltimore was 195th.

The rankings were calculated by looking at property damage collision frequency of Allstate drivers from 2011 to 2012 in the 200 largest cities from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Annual Estimates.
