A tornado ripped through a northern Illinois town Thursday night, killing one person and injuring seven others, according to the Associated Press.

Local authorities in Fairdale, Ill. said they were fairly confident there were no more victims but they would be working Friday to account for every resident. Every single home in the town was affected by the storm, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“I just hunkered down. I figured I was either going to live or I was going to die, so I might as well just stay where I was,” Fairdale resident Susan Meyer, 67, told the Chicago Tribune. The storm took just 30 seconds to pass over Meyer but it managed to collapse the entire upstairs of her house into her living room and a wall of her house was entirely gone. “It’s by the grace of God that I was in the stairwell,” Meyer said.
