“Do you know what Obama coffee is? Black and weak.”

That’s the “inappropriate joke” Israeli Vice Prime Minister and Interior Minister Silvan Shalom’s wife, Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes, wrote Sunday morning on Twitter.

The racially charged tweet drew criticism on social media. Nir-Mozes promptly deleted the tweet and said she was sorry, saying it was a “stupid joke somebody told me.” Then she apologized to the president: “President Obama I shouldn’t have written the inappropriate joke I heard. I like people no matter about their race and religion.”

“Sorry if I caused any offense to anyone,” she added. “I hope I will stay married when my husband will land and hear what I did.”

Silvan Shalom remained silent about the incident on social media.

Nir-Mozes’s tweet came during continuing tensions between Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the two countries continue to grapple with the Palestinian peace process and Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Nir-Mozes’s husband was appointed by Netanyahu last month to lead peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians and oversee strategic dialogue with the U.S.

Last month, according to Times of Israel, Nir-Mozes also made waves when she purportedly wrote to the president when he got his own Twitter account, saying: “@POTUS well come [welcome], I hope u’ll write from The hurt [heart] of Barack, and not from the head of Rrsedent [President] Obama. Kisses from Israel.” The tweet no longer exists and Nir-Mozes now denies she wrote it.

In response to Sunday’s tweet, one user called the “joke” Nir-Mozes posted a “racist slur.”

“Wife of Israeli Interior Minister @JudyMozes tweeted racist slur [about] POTUS while we mourn loss of 9 [because] of racism.”
