Yes, people want Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez back together

Where one Bennifer falls, another may rise up.

Or so hoped minions on Twitter, who speculated about/hoped for a reunion of the original Bennifer — Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck — after news of the actor’s imminent, long-rumored divorce from Jennifer Garner broke. Representative comment: “Soooo now that Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck are both single, does this mean the OG Bennifer can make a comeback?!”

Not quieting speculation was a photo J. Lo — reportedly dating dancer Casper Smart, but “kind of” single — posted on Twitter. The picture of a happy mom, or a coded message sent to an ex-fiance on the day his divorce was announced?

Also of note: In the recent past, Lopez — who was reportedly “beaming” at Affleck at the Golden Globes in 2013 when he won an award for “Argo” — indicated she was destroyed when she and Affleck broke up days before they were to be married in 2004.

“It felt like my heart had been torn out of my chest,” Lopez wrote in “True Love,” her memoir released last year. “And when the realization that I wasn’t going to have the fairytale family I wanted really set in, well, that was when I really started to fall apart.”

Lopez wed singer Marc Anthony less than six months — less than six months! — after she and Affleck didn’t make it to the altar. Affleck, at least, waited about a year and a half before marrying Garner in 2005.

And Affleck and Lopez do stay in touch.

“We don’t have the kind of relationship where she relies on me for advice,” Affleck said of Lopez in 2012, “but we do have the kind of relationship where there’ll be an e-mail saying, ‘Oh, your movie looks great.’ I remember when she got American Idol. I said: ‘This was really smart. Good luck.’ I touch base.”

“I respect her. I like her,” Affleck added, “She’s put up with some stuff that was unfair in her life, and I’m really pleased to see her successful.”

Not everyone, however, will be rooting for Lopez and Affleck. After all, these guys made the notorious flop “Gigli.” As CNN put it in 2004: “‘Gigli’ is really, really bad.”

And if Bennifer 1.0 returns, we also might be in for some excruciating dual interviews like this “Dateline” number.
