A male shark likely encroached on the turf of a female shark at a South Korean aquarium.

So, she ate him.

The 8-year-old sand tiger shark, about seven feet long, slowly began eating the smaller 5-year-old male in a first-of-its-kind encounter at Seoul’s COEX aquarium Thursday, Reuters reported.

“Sharks have their own territory. However, sometimes when they bump against each other, they bite out of astonishment,” COEX aquarium PR manager Oh Tae-youp told the news service. “I think the shark swallowed the whole body, because they usually eat it all when they bite the head part.”

A different spokesman for COEX told AFP that “the sand tiger shark’s instincts are to attack if its territory is threatened, especially during breeding periods.”

Only the smaller shark’s tail was still visible when COEX opened Friday and it will stay in her mouth for a few more days, aquarium officials said.

But this lady shark can’t have it all: She’ll probably regurgitate the rest of the male shark’s body in about a week because she can’t fully digest him.
