Washington Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez (18-7, 2.98 ERA) could become major league baseball’s first 19-game winner with a victory over the New York Mets on Monday. He is 2-1 and with a 1.23 ERA in 22 innings over his past three starts. He is opposed by right-hander Collin McHugh (0-1, 3.27 ERA), who is making his third start of the season. Televisions in the Nationals clubhouse blared MLB Network, and as Gonzalez walked into the room, analysts were discussing the pitcher’s season, importance in the postseason and Cy Young candidacy. He shouted: “Listen up guys,” all laughed and he didn’t look up at the televisions and left the room. As always, talk about the game here.
