Michael Morse ready to return after missing four games

Before the thunderstorms and rain wiped out Tuesday’s game, Nationals outfielder Michael Morse was in the lineup and ready to return after missing four games with a bone bruise in his left wrist. He hasn’t been in the lineup since Sept. 11 and coupled with the two off days, Morse has rested for a full week.

“I’m getting better,” Morse said Tuesday afternoon before the game was postponed. “I should be good to go.”

Morse played through the pain last week in New York but admitted it was affecting his performance at the plate. While he is still hitting .285, the discomfort had sapped his power. He had only four extra-base hits in the prior month.

The Nationals hoped that the swelling in Morse’s hand would subside and when it did then he could return to play. But it’s an injury Morse acknowledges he will have to play through the rest of the season.  “I think the couple days off helped me a lot,” he said. “It’s better than what it was.”

Morse took some swings on Sunday in Atlanta but didn’t hit any balls, Johnson said. Morse took batting practice on Tuesday. He was receiving some treatment on his wrist on Tuesday afternoon before the game was pushed to a doubleheader on Wednesday.

“He had some electrodes attached to him,” Johnson said. “I don’t know what that does. But he was getting electrocuted today when I was talking to him. I guess that’s helping it. So we’ll see tomorrow.”
