The Nationals had their first shot, in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, to claim a Washington-based team’s first postseason berth since 1933 and stumbled despite a dramatic comeback. So they return again to Nationals Park, in the closing game of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, to try again. Ross Detwiler (9-6, 3.16 ERA) hasn’t won a decision since Sept. 3; he pitched a strong six innings, allowing only one run, against the Atlanta Braves on Friday. In a matchup of left-handers, Detwiler will be opposed by Chris Capuano (11-10, 3.60 ERA). The Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, to become the first team to notch a postseason berth and sit a slim half game behind the Nationals for the best record in the National League. As always, talk about the game here.
