F.P. Santangelo, Bob Carpenter return next season

It may seem obvious but it’s worth stating: play-by-play announcer Bob Carpenter and color analyst F.P. Santangelo will again be in the television booth for Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. The network generally operates in one-year deals, and both Carpenter and Santangelo will return for the 2013 season.

Next season will be the third year that Carpenter and Santangelo headline MASN’s broadcast team for Nationals games. Carpenter is entering his eighth season in the booth, while Santangelo will begin his third after taking over late in 2010 following color analyst Rob Dibble’s controversial exit. Decisions on on-air talent have mutual input from both the network and the Nationals, who own a minority stake in MASN.

On-field reporter Kristina Akra‘s contract is also up and, according to a person familiar with the situation, she is expected to return. Nothing, however, is official yet. Last season was Akra’s first with MASN, coming to Washington from FoxSports South to replace former on-field reporter Debbi Taylor.

James Wagner joined the Post in August 2010, wrote about high school sports across the region for two years and has covered the Nationals since the middle of the 2012 season.
