Ramos will be eased into action as a designated hitter before he gets behind the plate. The catcher fears hurting his surgically repaired right knee, the lead leg when he slides. Johnson still believes Ramos will be ready by opening day.

The reliever, returning from elbow surgery last season, is on the same track as recently acquired starter Chris Young: Each will get one more bullpen session before facing hitters. Young, who will replace Ross Detwiler in the rotation when he leaves for the World Baseball Classic on March 4, will make appearances out of the bullpen before making his first start on March 9.
