The Nationals smashed four home runs in Tuesday’s win over the White Sox, the opening round of their strangely early interleague matchup. The bullpen has so far been inconsistent — but it’s early — while the starting pitching has been strong and lineup is slowly heating up. Jordan Zimmermann (1-0, 1.50 ERA) takes the mound against the White Sox, who will start and play Adam Dunn in left field. The former National, Chicago’s designated hitter, last played left on June 16 in an interleague game, and only played in five games there last season. Right-hander Gavin Floyd (0-1, 3.00 ERA) will start for the White Sox. Talk about the game here. The lineups are here.
UPDATE, 7:03 p.m.: The game will delayed 15 minutes and start at 7:20 p.m. because, according to a team spokesman, the umpires were stuck in traffic and got a late start getting ready for the game. Unusual, yes. Tonight’s umpires: Chris Guccione, Tom Hallion, Ron Kulpa and Phil Cuzzi.
