Dan Haren (John McDonnell/The Washington Post)

Sure, it’s a new season, but Monday will serve as a reminder of the historic highs and lows of last season. The St. Louis Cardinals are in Washington on a chilly night and Pete Kozma is starting at shortstop in a rematch of the NLDS opponents. Dan Haren (1-2, 8.10 ERA) makes his fourth start of the season, hoping to find some semblance of consistency. Manager Davey Johnson, reiterating what Haren said last week, said the veteran right-hander is trying hard to fit in, focusing too much on throwing a hard fastball and not using his trademark secondary pitches as much as he had before. Shelby Miller (2-1, 1.96 ERA), a Cardinals top pitching prospect, is off to a strong start and takes the mound. The lineups are here. As always, talk about the game here.
