Nationals-Reds lineups: Adam LaRoche dropped to sixth

(Jonathan Newton / The Washington Post)

Manager Davey Johnson moved Adam LaRoche to sixth today, a nearly unprecedented reaction to LaRoche’s vicious slump. LaRoche is 0 for his last 22 with 10 strikeouts, and today he will bat sixth for only the second time since the start of the 2012 season. The Reds are throwing red-hot rookie lefty Tony Cingrani, which also explains why Johnson would want to bat Ian Desmond ahead of LaRoche.
