Today’s Nationals-Pirates lineups: Denard Span out, Danny Espinosa leading off

(Evan Vucci / AP)

Two days ago, Davey Johnson had just given Danny Espinosa a pair of days off to regroup after a slow start. Today, he’s hitting him lead off.

Espinosa will take the place of Denard Span, who hasn’t missed a game all year but fouled two balls off his right ankle last night. Roger Bernadina, 1 for 22 this year in limited playing time, will play center field and hit eighth behind Stephen Strasburg. Jayson Werth, as expected, remains out with a sore hamstring and Tyler Moore will play right against Pirates left-hander Jeff Locke.
