The Nationals officially called up right-hander Nate Karns from Class AA Harrisburg for Tuesday’s start, the second straight one missed by left-hander Ross Detwiler. He’ll oppose Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman, who is making his second start after being called up from Class AA Bowie. Left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno was optioned after one day to Class AAA Syracuse to make room for Karns.

The Nationals will use the same lineup as Monday, which doesn’t include Bryce Harper as he rests bursitis in his left knee. He could return as soon as Wednesday as a designated hitter in Baltimore. Scuffling Tyler Moore and Roger Bernadina again gets chances to snap out of their funks.
