The Nationals will use a designated hitter for the first time this year, and they tapped left-hander Chad Tracy to add to the lineup against lanky Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman.More pressing is the first No. 9 hitter of the season: Second baseman Danny Espinosa, playing for the first time since the Nationals diagnosed a bone chip in his right wrist, which he played through — at the team’s insistence — for more than a month.

Down  on the field before batting practice, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, two former Team USA teammates, taped a dual interview with MASN. After the session, they chatted for a while off to the side, just the two of them. Per Dave Sheinin’s story earlier this week, they’re pretty good pals – to the point that Harper was one of the first people to contact Machado after his call-up last season.
