Nationals-Twins lineups and discussion thread: Game 62

The Nationals clobbered the Twins, 7-0, in Game 1. Jordan Zimmermann’s seven shutout innings and the their offensive breakout enabled the Nationals to rest their bullpen. After seven relievers pitched yesterday, only Ian Krol and Xavier Cedeno worked in the opener today.

Denard Span is back in the lineup after he rested his bruised right foot this afternoon. Adam LaRoche left the first game in the seventh inning, but he did not suffer any kind of injury. “He just had a nature call, that’s all,” Manager Davey Johnson said.

Anthony Rendon is back at second base. Since the Nationals summoned him Tuesday, Rendon is 5 for 12 with three doubles and three RBI. He made an error today when he dropped a pop-up he lost in the sun. Later, he made a catch on a similar can of corn and playfully pumped his fist. The crowd roared and Ian Desmond tipped his cap.

“I like to have a little fun out there, act like a clown,” Rendon said.
